Essential Insights into Fire Safety🚨📛
On the 30th of November, Jon Sculley from Fire Rescue Victoria joined us to provide our AMEP students with essential insights into fire safety.
Jon arrived equipped with a wide range of realia to captivate the students. The items included Fire extinguisher, fire blanket, smoke alarm, and assorted electrical items. Jon also distributed Home Fire Safety booklets, wooden spoons, and electrical safety information pamphlets.
Throughout his presentation Jon stopped to show videos which clarified the main message of fire safety at home. The audio visuals included the importance of when to ring Triple Zero and what information you need to give.
Students were encouraged to have conversations where they can discuss aspects of their lives. Listening to the speaker and asking questions to clarify their understanding is an excellent classroom activity, as this helps to consolidate the students’ communication and social skills.
A key aim of the AMEP program is to support new migrants in feeling safe, informed, and comfortable as they settle into their new lives and integrate into the community.
Jon's engaging presentation, enhanced with props, videos, and audio-visual aids, brought this goal to life in a meaningful and memorable way.
