Olympic Neighbourhood House was founded in 1992 after identifying a need within our local community for high quality literacy and basic education courses.

Since then, we have evolved to also offer a wide range of community development programs. We are committed to our vision and mission whilst operating under a strong set of values.

 
  • To provide opportunities for all members of our community to develop and advance through equitable access to educational programs and services.

  • To promote a sense of community as well as individual vocational, social and personal opportunities by providing:

    i. adult literacy, basic education and English language classes;

    ii. vocational education and training appropriate to the needs of the community;

    iii. a range of other general adult education classes and community development activities to meet the personal, social and vocational needs of the community; and

    iv. access to formal and informal educational and technological resources.

  • Are encompassed by the following:

    Each individual is valued as a whole person and is supported in a caring environment which fosters a sense of community and lifelong learning.

  • · Community owned and managed, this means we are not-for-profit.

    · Learn Local (ACFE) This means we provide pre-accredited adult education and training programs. This is funded by Adult Community Further Education (ACFE)

    · Registered Training Organisation (RTO) This means we are registered with the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) to offer nationally accredited education and training programs and issue qualifications that are on our scope of registration

    · Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) provider

    · The Neighbourhood House for West Heidelberg

    · A registered charity with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) and Public Benevolent Institute (PBI) status
