Health & Wellbeing Group - Tapping Techniques, Meditation & more
Emotional Freedom techniques (EFT tapping), is a self healing technique that can be used to balance and release emotion. Supporting a wide range of concerns, such as stress, anxiety and chronic pain. This group ends with a heart centred nature based meditation. It is also an opportunity for community members to share with each other a variety of health and wellbeing techniques.
Introduction to Gardening & Horticulture
This course is a hands-on introduction to gardening and horticulture. The teacher will introduce students to a range of techniques, including weed and plant identification, pruning trees and other plants, companion planting and pest control, composting, using a range of tools and basic planting and landscaping techniques.
Job Search Skills
Designed to assist adult learners to identify and pursue their future pathways. Includes the hidden job market, networking, job applications, cover letters, resumes, interview skills and more.
Computers for Beginners
Learn the basics of how to use a computer from creating and saving files, exploring the internet and using email. Be introduced to various software packages including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Computers Intermediate
Take your computer skills to the next level. Build on your understanding of computer basics and develop your skills further to confidently use a range of software programs to create, edit, save and print formal and informal documents to suit various needs.
Computers Advanced
Building on your understanding of various computer software programs, extend your knowledge and skills further to include critical thinking and problem-solving using technology. Develop the confidence to use technology fearlessly and the digital literacy skills needed for further study or employment.
Legal Literacy for Women
In this 30-hour course you will receive information on the court system and the law as it particularly relates to personal safety, relationships, separation, divorce, housing and children. You will learn to recognise when a problem needs legal help, gain an understanding of your rights, learn where to go for help, as well as developing the confidence and know-how to approach a legal service directly. Additional support provided for those with English as an additional language.
Growing Food at Home
Learn to grow your own food by maximising the space you have. In this hands-on course you will discover how to grow vegies and herbs in pots, containers, planter boxes or small gardens. If you have a balcony, a courtyard or a patio, this course is for you. Learn what food to grow and when.
Cybersafety
Join our Cybersafety course for an introduction to:
Staying safe online, including email and text message safety
How to protect your computer from viruses and keep your data safe
Making payments safely on the internet
How to recognise common scams
Essential Writing Skills
Adult literacy students will learn research and interview skills and extend their literacy skills by writing and publishing their work in a newsletter for the community.
English Language Skills
This course will focus on developing the English language skills of students from non-English speaking backgrounds. It will focus on reading, writing, speaking and listening skills and help students improve their general English for everyday situations. Students will gain the confidence to progress into further study, work and/or community involvement.
Literacy and Numeracy (with additional support)
This course will focus on increasing reading, writing, speaking, listening and numeracy skills for students with a mild intellectual disability. Learners will also focus on strategies to gain relevant life skills in order to participate in their community, including possible volunteer work/employment opportunities or further study options.
St James Sewing Group
A friendly group where participants meet weekly to share their skills around sewing, knitting and crafts. This groups provides an informal, warm place to make friends, have a chat, practise your skills and learn from each other. Sewing machines are provided or you are welcome to bring your own.
K-Krafts and Arts
Learn new craft skills or bring along your own project and chat with like minded people in a relaxed environment, with skilled helpers on hand.
Introduction to Barbering
This five day course will give you a taste of what it would be like to be an apprentice barber. It will be run in a barber shop and taught by a professional barber. You will learn about cutting, shaving, products, salon hygiene, operating the till, customer service and much more.
Digital Essentials
Digital Essentials Level 1: This course in an introduction to using different software and apps, a smartphone, the internet, email, social media and how to stay safe online.
Literacy for Work
Suitable for students with additional needs who have minimal reading and writing skills. Classes are structured around learning, numeracy, developing reading and writing skills and using computers.
Introduction to Barbering - Level 2
This course will build on your basic knowledge and experience in barbering. Taught by an experienced barber in a local salon, you will build on basic practical barbering skills.
Pot While You Potter
Do you enjoy pottering around the garden? Join others to help maintain the Hub garden and propagate seedlings in our polyhouse. Maybe sell your produce at our community markets. Drop in and enjoy morning tea and a chat.
